In the ’00s, These Flip-Flops Were Everything—Now They’re Having a Moment Again

When you think of flip-flops, especially flip-flop brands, what comes to mind? I’d wager that you’d automatically think of Havaianas. The Brazilian brand is now over 50 years old and sells around 200 million flip-flops every year. The sandals became incredibly popular in the mid-2000s (I was desperate to get my hands on a pair), thanks to being distributed all over the world at the end of the ’90s. But then it all became a little quieter on the Havianas front, at least in the UK, due to other types of sandals becoming more fashionable. However, that seems to be changing thanks to some of our favourite fashion Instagrammers who have been wearing the brand’s famous flip-flops again.

It’s probably no surprise that the divisive footwear brand (at least in the fashion community) is making its comeback thanks to plenty of designers pushing the style. Simon MillerGianvito Rossi and Balenciaga all currently carry heeled versions of flip-flops. But if that’s not your thing, then I suggest sticking to the humble, flat flip-flops from the iconic brand. Want to know how to style it and make it more of a fashion statement?
